“Give Donald Trump a chance before you criticize him” is another way of saying “let him get in a few really solid punches before you even try defending yourself.”
While you’re busy “giving him a chance,” he’s thinking about appointing awful Tom Price to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Price is a doctor — a real medical doctor, God help us — who spreads ignorance and fear like some kind of medieval skull-driller.
According to Price, laws that “promote some homosexual-agenda item… should take into account the tremendous medical health impact and economic impact that promoting such a lifestyle will result in.”

So, this could be the guy in charge of the nation’s medical and social services. A man who believes that treating you with equality is a bad idea because you are sick and diseased and a burden on everyone around you.
He also says: “The consequences of activity that has been seen as outside the norm are real and must be explored completely… [before] moving forward with any social legislation that would alter things.”

Just to be clear — he’s wrong about virtually everything. But being wrong is what Republicans do best. And once he’s in power, you can bet that he’ll gut services and protections for LGBT people — that could mean anything from access to homeless shelters to assistance with adoption, HIV counseling, the ability to see your partner in a hospital, gay couples being kept together when they go into elder housing, and who even knows what.
Now as we’ve learned, it’s the most sanctimonious Republicans who are hiding the most depraved secrets, so do you want to take any guesses as to what terrible shameful brokenness Tom Price is hiding? Whatever it is, a person doesn’t turn into a twisted liar unless they’ve got something real devious in their closet.

How would the Secretary of Health & Human Services prevent anyone from accessing a homeless shelter, visiting someone in the hospital or deciding which “elder housing” (whatever that is) facility to live in? Does the federal government offer adoption assistance? The HIV counseling concern might be legitimate, however. Not that anyone seems to be paying much attention to it.

And just because someone doesn’t run around screaming that the sky is falling doesn’t mean they aren’t concerned but please explain exactly how you’ve defended us or had any effect at all with your reporting?

@highestbidder:
Did you read anything?
According to Price, laws that “promote some homosexual-agenda item… should take into account the tremendous medical health impact and economic impact that promoting such a lifestyle will result in.”
So basically any law which recognizes gay people or gives gay people equality should take into account medical issues and economic impacts? How does giving people civil rights have anything to do with things that have nothing to do with civil rights? Should we question the basic civil rights of single women because that’s the demographic more likely to have children? Before AIDS killed many gay people, there were numerous evil laws against gay people. They were not concerned about the medical health impact of gay people in the 1950s. Stop trying to distract yourself by accusing Queerty of being, what do you alt-righters call people with facts and clarity again? Liberals? Of course HIV concern is legitimate, not might be (duh), and you probably think Ronald Reagan started the first Aids foundation too?

@Deepdow: Yeah, he’s barely concealing his hidden agenda. The right wing nutjobs love to use the medical issue as a legitimate argument to strip away or deny peoples civil rights. You can find the same arguments the Nazi’s used against the Jews.

Why do all conservative men look alike? Old, rich mean spirited, businessmen, that look like Fick Cheney and Karl Rove, and they never have facial hair. Clean shaven, no facial hair. They must shave twice a day.

Dick not Fick. As in he’s a Dick.

Generally it is only straight people who do not understand this. So i will assume you are an outsider here, and first ask why a heterosexual comes here to antagonize gay people, especially when so ignorant of the issues.
It is SPECIFICALLY marriage equality that grants visitation rights in hospitals for gay men and women and their spouses. Prior to that they were deemed “roommates” and could be forbidden to see their partners in the icu, especially if the partners family was anti-gay. This can easily happen again under Trump, maker no mistake about that. Christian shelters (which will replace secular ones as funding shifts under Trump) have a history of turning away gay families unless the partners split up. The Salvation Army is especially guilty of this. Similarly in state supported or faith based facilities for elders and disabled gay relationships are not allowed, gay periodicals and books are often confiscated. There will be no opposition to this under Trump. Clearly a Secretary of Health and Human Services who thinks homosexuality an aberration and evil will support a return to greater discrimination.
When my lover died of HIV in 1989 I was not allowed to be with him, but had been ushered out when the nurse needed to do a procedure prior to the end of visiting hours. His family was estranged and in denial and so he died alone in his hospital room. These are all legitimate concerns, and there are more. I realize they are of little or no concern to a lot of straight people and to gay right wingers, but they are important to almost all of us.

Ever since Trump made his statement about having no interest in reversing same sex marriage he has made a steady list of potential appointments to men who are known homophobes or who have anti-gay agendas. Trump man may not be speaking out against gays himself but his actions speak louder than words and the people he is surrounding himself with are going to be highly detrimental to the rights of gays and other minorities. He seems to be amassing a bunch of lackeys to do the dirty work so he doesn’t have to get his own hands dirty. Meanwhile I think they will end up using him like a puppet.
