Mom Of The Year Updates Tattoo Of Trans Son To Reflect His Authentic Gender Identity

It’s safe to say Lindsay Peace adores her three kids — she had her tattoo artist husband Steve render them permanently on her body, after all.

But while sons Hamish and Elliot’s ink portraits have stood the test of time, Ace’s wound up being problematic.

That’s because Ace, now 15, doesn’t match the pink frilly dress and purple bow adorned on Lindsay’s skin. In fact, Ace identifies as transgender, making the tattoo a wholly inaccurate representation of the son Lindsay and Steve have raised.

Sensitive to the disparity, Lindsay first thought of removing it altogether, but Steve had a better idea.

He tattooed directly over the original, swapping out the dress and bow for shorts, a T-shirt and a slingshot:

They kept the transformation a secret, and surprised Ace with the result.

“He loved it. Every step we have in this journey of ours he just gets happier and happier,” Lindsay told HuffPo.

They decided to share the photo on the Facebook page of Immaculate Concept Tattoo, where Steve works. The response they received was overwhelmingly positive.

“I guess there are people out there that have negative opinions,” Steve said, “but thankfully they’re keeping it to themselves.”

He added: “You have to support your kids. I mean, it’s tough when you hear that as a parent, but you have to be strong for your kids. You have to come to terms with it yourself, on your own time, and just have to offer 100 per cent support.”
