Have you heard? San Francisco is gentrifying. And it’s not just bad news for many residential tenants — those crazy rents are also squeezing out businesses. How many more $11 cocktail bars do we need? One more apparently, because lesbian haunt The Lexington Club has shut its doors for good in the Mission.
Of course, there are still plenty of fine gay establishments to get hammered at in the city, and many that cater to ladies on specific nights, but the Lex was the last real lesbian bar in the city. (Unless you count Bernal Heights’ quirky Wild Side West, which we highly recommend but don’t quite consider a “lesbian bar” these days.)
We’ll remember you fondly, Lex.

Sorry to have missed the farewell. I can count on one hand the number of times I went to the Lex but glad it was there for my and my husband’s lesbian and bi friends who enjoyed being regulars there.

More, Queerty, and remember, you can also feature articles about non-white LGBTQs who aren’t involved in gay-bashings or posing in Andrew Christian underwear (nice as those posts are).

Aww… I hate seeing Gay business close. We don’t have many place’s in the world were we can be ourselves amongst people like us. So it always saddens me to hear another Gay business/club etc. Is closing. You would think with the progress we are making more business will open for lgbt. I mean it wouldn’t be so bad if we were majority but we are not. So it hits us harder as oppose to heterosexuals losing a business/club because every where is basically a heterosexual playing field. Hell sometimes it’s an invasion in the Gay clubs.

It’s hilarious how some lesbian bars seems to imitate the worst qualities of girly bars for straight guys. Pathetic. No wonder the lesbian scene is in decay. You have to wonder if these lesbian bars are actually owned by straight guys.
It sort of reminds me of those lesbian web-sites which are owned by straight guys. LOL. Oh, how the lesbians have fallen….
