Poking Nicolas Sarkozy, Retweeting the Dalai Lama. Would Princess Diana Really Have Used Social Media?

THE SHOT — Even though right before her untimely death, Princess Diana was growing weary of her lack of privacy fueled by the public’s unquenchable thirst for tabloid fare, Newsweek editor and former gal pal, Tina Brown envisions a 50-year-old Diana as a social media maven in this week’s issue of the magazine. But if Diana were alive now, do you think she would be Tweeting about AIDS research and world hunger? No, she would be doing something about it. Newsweek also photoshopped a Facebook profile for the Princess. Check it out on the next page.

Princess Diana a fan of Anderson Cooper and Colin Firth we can see but Real Housewives of New York? And a relationship status publicly listed as complicated? Getting poked by handsome world leaders? Accepting Camilla Parker Bowles’ friend request? Tasteless knowing how much the princess yearned for her privacy.

Celebrities have actually raised millions using twitter for HIV/AIDS and other world disasters.

@Red Meat: True, point is – we wouldn’t have stopped there.

Am I the only one who’s a bit morbidly appalled that they photoshopped her into these pictures in the first place? Not to mention the theorizing and speculation about how mny Botox injections she may have had by now? This is the time of story I’d have expected on the front cover of the Globe, not Newsweek…

Tina Brown often seems like she’s trying too hard to be edgy. I think the photoshopping of Princess Di’s image was in very bad taste. I’m still a fan of thedailybeast, but Newsweek is slipping into oblivion. Tina is no Jon Meecham! (sp?)
