Religious Right Sees Marriage Victory As End Of The World, 9/11

fischerThe religious right is taking the Supreme Court victory on marriage equality pretty hard. How hard? Well, judging by their apocalyptic rhetoric, really, really hard. Here’s a rundown of some of the responses from the citadels of homophobia:

Rep. Louis Gohmert (R.-Texas): “[I]f Moses, Jesus, and contributors to the Bible were correct, God’s hand of protection will be withdrawn as future actions from external and internal forces will soon make clear.”

Austin Ruse of the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute: “Let the persecution begin in earnest.”

Fox commentator Todd Starnes: “If you thought the cultural purge over the Confederate flag was breathtaking — wait until you see what LGBT activists do with Christians.”

Evangelist Franklin Graham: “I do believe that God’s judgment will come on this nation.”

Radio minister Carl Gallups: “These are the beginnings of the very last days,”

The winner of the over-the-top cup goes to the ever-reliable Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association (or not). Fischer is a fount of offensive comparisons, running the gamut from national tragedies to American Pie.

  • “From a moral standpoint, 6/26 is the new 9/11 because it was on this day that five justices of the United States Supreme Court became moral jihadists, They became rainbow jihadists and they blasted the twin pillars of truth and righteousness into rubble.”
  • “Today, June 26, 2015, is a date which will live in infamy. On this day, the United States became Sodom and Gomorrah.”
  • “June 26, 2015: I saw Satan dancing with delight, the day the music died in the United States of America.”
Okay, Bryan. Drive your Chevy to the levy and stay there.
