This weekend, talk show host Mike Slater descended upon San Diego Pride with a condescending smirk, riotous “fitted” pink shirt, and only slightly trembling microphone to grille revelers and play a little game he likes to call “Which Bigot Said It?”
Displaying photos of Donald Trump, Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, and Sarah Palin on a whiteboard, Slater rattled off a series of searing soundbites, including:
“I think marriage is as a marriage has always been — between a man and a woman.”
“For me as a Christian, it is also a sacred union. God’s in the mix.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time.”
“I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage.”
Oh, but there’s a “Gotcha!” here. A major “Gotcha!” Perhaps even a slightly obvious “Gotcha!” Okay, perhaps an entirely predictable “Gotcha!”
All these quotes, you see, can be attributed to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Oh, that sly fox.

Slater also goosed his subjects by asking, “What percentage of the male population are gay?” Answers pegged much higher than the statistic that coy little minx had under his belt: The Center for Disease Control claims that “1.8% of males are gay.”
Gotcha?
The whole ruse was hatched for Glenn Beck’s flamingly right-wing website The Blaze. which has recently published such articles as “Yes, Gay Marriage Hurts Me Personally” and “Franklin Graham’s Dire Warning in Wake of Same-Sex Marriage Ruling.”
We predict less than 1.8% of gay males will enjoy the flaccid segment, which you can watch below:

(chuckle)……That guy can quote Steel Magnolias better than any of us.
Giancarlo85
The Blaze is a bunch of horseshit… and so is this idiot talk show host. Some on here though were posting Blaze articles… rather hilarious… gay republicans are a riot.
Matthew Katz
he’s a disgusting “human being” you’d get the same results if you asked attendees at a christian fundamentalist event. Though there they’d be proud to link the statements to their hateful leadership. At least Clinton and Obama have grown and become more accepting of gays and gay marriage. You can’t say that about any of the Republican hate machine. I’m sure this closeted bigot had a “good” time after the camera was turned off.

Pssh!
Lecture us on the gay agenda.
What about the right-wing agenda?

the blaze is for people who find Glenn Beck to be “too intellectual”
Hey! guess what soundbites we got from years ago! HAHA!
how about “name a single republican leaders who’s actively championing marriage equality and no more promotions of prejudice against the LGBT community”
enjoy the crickets!

LOOOOOL y’all are hilarious! video just shows the truth – gay votes are cheap. one tweet or one hashtag and like zombies, we line up to vote Dem.
and of course all the nasty personal attacks on the dude for simply doing a great job showing us Low Information Voters.

The important point: Barack and Hillary don’t believe that anymore.

How about 23% (plus or minus) is gay. 1.8%???…..BS buddy!

To set the old tired record straight (so to speak), the low statistic for being gay first came out (again, so to speak) in a 1903-4 survey by German sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld, published in 1920. He sent out a postal survey (a notoriously unreliable process) to 8721 men, namely 3000 students from the Charlottenburg Institute of Technology and 5721 registered metal workers in Berlin, both very masculine environments. Some 1240 (14.2%) were returned undelivered, and of the remainder that were delivered some 3665 (49%) replied. Hirschfeld gave only three categories… a libido focused only on females, only on males, or on both. From the returns he concluded that 2.3% were homosexual, 3.4% were bisexual and the remaining 94.3% were heterosexual. A fellow sexologist of the time, Havelock Ellis, estimated the figure a between 2 and 5 percent, but he came to this through his clinical observations of patients and friends, not through research. By the time of Kinsey in 1948, the flaws in Hirschfeld’s work were obvious. What of the 1240 who never received the forms or the 3816 who received them but never replied? What sociological factors would have caused people not to be available or not to want to disclose their sexuality? But Kinsey had also devised a 7-point scale of sexuality, and Hirschfeld’s research did not include people who were gay but who had had sex with women on some basis (Kinsey’s type 6 or type 5 homosexual). It may in fact be true that only 1.8% are “exclusively gay throughout the entirety of their lives”, but when a guy has a girlfriend in his teens, but at the age of 22, 32, 42 or beyond, he discovers that he is gay, and is therefore NOT included in the “exclusive” category, nor is he “bisexual”, where is he catered for? As sexual experimentation and expected behaviour are challenged and redefined, it may eventuate that the figure may reduce to zero percent “exclusive”. That does not mean that we do not exist. It just means that the definitions of the research have to be re-examined. (We must aslo ask the right-wing, “If it were true that there are so few homosexuals around, a) what are you so frightened of, and b) does that make persecution legitimate? What is the percentage threshold between acceptable and unacceptable persecution?)
Evji108
This BS fake journalism is the right-wing Christian attempt play catchup in a culture war they are clearly losing/have lost. It is rigged to reinforce the negative stereotypes that they already hold and are determined to hold on to, while they feign interest in what Gay men think in order to show how open minded they pretend to be by coming to Pride. Then they can sit back and smugly tell themselves that they really have been right about gays all along, and that they are the victims of some horrible miscarriage of justice. They have made their dislike of gays abundantly clear over and over again. We don’t need to listen to this hateful crap anymore.
Stache99
@aidanbh:I didn’t realize the history of where it all came from though. Thanks for the info.
I always wondered about how they could come up with such a figure. Kinsey defined human sexuality in a sliding scale. Not to mention I think that would be the most lied about subject ever on a survey.
I’ve had plenty of sex with women and I’m gay. However, I guess I just don’t count in their narrow 1.8% definition of someone gay.
Stache99
I was wondering why he kept mocking them with these ridiculous questions over and over ad nauseam. Yeah, we get your damn point already. Now that I know his background it makes sense what he was up to.
I think it’s allot more fun to have comedians go into Tea Party rallies though.
Giancarlo85
@aaronarnwine: You want low information voters? Take a look at republicans. Who are the constituents of republicans? Low information, uneducated voters in backward states that have the highest levels of poverty, the lowest levels of education and the fewest number of job opportunities… go figure.
Why is it 8 out of the 10 richest counties in America went to democrats the last Presidential election? Low information I think not.
This “dude” deserves it because he is an uneducated twit that doesn’t really understand what is going on in this country. He is part of the two issue movement (abortion and the evil gays). If they aren’t talking about baby killers, they are talking about two people of the same sex getting married. That’s all the right wing can talk about. They can’t talk about important matters like the economy, international affairs, health care or infrastructure… because we all know they don’t have any real ideas for any of those topics.
And if you want a super low information general election take a look at the 2004 Election. Do you really want to go back to that garbage? That entire information was about how evil we were and the sanctity of marriage.
You fail miserably at this. Gay people are often more educated and informed than republicans. It seems to me republicans care more about gay marriage than gay people do!
Giancarlo85
Also one more thing I forgot to add for our new neighborhood right winger… what happened with the last republican President? Two foreign wars, a recession, same sex marriage bans, fuck-ups across the board…
America was turned into a laughing stock because of people like you, aaron! Why should we be subjected to that misery once again?
Republicans = LOW INFORMATION VOTERS and often ONE OR TWO ISSUE VOTERS.
Giancarlo85
@Giancarlo85: *Correction: That entire election was about how evil we were and the sanctity of marriage.
Heck, the “sanctity of marriage” propelled that stupid asshole to re-election (who I shall not name because we all know whom I’m talking about).
tsginamarieva
While the CDC data found 1.6% of those surveyed self-identified as gay, about .8% self-identified as bisexual and another 1.1% classified themselves as “other.” So, in broad terms, about 4% of the population is something other than straight.
Zekester
Yeah, I’m sure that closeted gay man with a wife and three kids in rural Mississippi answered the question about his sexuality honestly.
Alistair Wiseman
@AtticusBennett:
“Name a single republican [sic] leaders [sic] who’s actively championing marriage equality…”
I believe that issue has been settled. Onto your next talking point. (Other than advocating physical violence for those who disagree with you.)
Alistair Wiseman
Yes, these are your next Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton voters.
Impressive, isn’t it?
Giancarlo85
@Alistair Wiseman: You are so naive. The Republicans don’t think it is settled. Since they failed at every other issue, all the can focus on is abortion and gays.
@Alistair Wiseman: Have you seen Republican voters? Most are uneducated misinformed idiots.
Giancarlo85
Republicans are some of the lowest information voters out there.
Just take a look at these idiots:

Its funny how all the homophobe always mention the american survey that came up with the 1,8% gays.
However, most survey come up with between 5 and 10% gays. The number of people admitting to be gay always depends on how anonymous the survey is (did they know your name and could they link your answer to you, did they know your name without being able to link your answer to you, or was it entirely anonymous?)… and it depends on the examined population, as well as on how homophobic the country the survey was done in is.
Also, it depends on the questions asked. If you ask “Did you ever fantasize about sex with a person of your gender?” instead of “Are you gay” or “Are you bisexual”, you will get a much higher proportion of people admitting to being attracted to their own gender. In the last european study I’ve read, 25% of the population was homosexual or bisexual.
And I am sure that the real figure is much higher, just see other, more permissive cultures throughout history. Even today, in Papua, native men lead bisexual lives. Or just have a look at our closest relatives: the bonobos. Since sex has evolved in many social animals (mankind included) towards a tool of social cohesion, it is not restricted to reproduction and heterosexuality. Therefore, homo- and bisexuality is widespread among those species. Actually, in many mammal species, heterosexuality is rarer than homosexuality.

Wow the log cabin queens are out in groves today. I would have thought you dick dastardlys would have taken your trump tower seats by now. Not one of your candidates is saying anything worth a damn.
Giancarlo85
@wagnerwallace: And what are you? A total zombie who votes republican.
Man oh man… these low information gay republicans are out in force. They supposedly vote for their checkbook. They don’t realize how badly the GOP is screwing this country over.
GOP = Bad for the country. Bad for the economy. Bad for the future.
Get it?

@Giancarlo85: The Republican hot topic now immigration. The frontrunner in the Republican party has a solution…. Build a fucking wall! Hahaha I don’t have enough hours in a day to tell anyone how dumb an idea that is.

They don’t have any good ideas.

I’m always amazed how Republicans somehow have got gay and other minority Republicans to think they don’t matter “in the grand scheme of things”.

Did Slater go back in the closet after this?

Disgusting creature.

Just like Roe v. Wade? That was 42 years ago and it is still on the books. Republicans still believe in saving nascent human life.

Oh The Blaze. Fox News is more credible and that is saying a lot.
Captain Obvious
San Diego looks just as trashy and weird as I remember it. What a hell hole.

Giancarlo85
@Alistair Wiseman: Saving the life of babies, yet willing to kill over 400,000 Iraqis (mostly women and children)? Republicans are killers.
brandon
who the hell believes 30 plus percent of the male population is gay?
RobvR
Is there something in the water that makes people in San Diego dumb? With all due respect, 30% of the male population is gay?! Even I as gay would become concerned there wouldn’t be enough children in that case. It’s roughly about 5%. And why would the CDC have the right number (sorry, I’m not an American so I don’t know if it also does research on other issues than diseases)? I thought we weren’t sick anymore according to science……
dwbyers1960
@AtticusBennett: Who really cares about what you have to say. It’s as if you think you are important….hahaha.
Aranos
Why didn’t he mention that other survey the same CDC did among YOUNG and hence more open minded people, where 15.3 % of the participants said they were either gay or bisexual? Hmm, could it be he has some sort of agenda?
Giancarlo85
@dwbyers1960: Look what the cat dragged in. The homophobic asshole is posting here too. Nobody cares what right wingers think. You people are stuck in the past.
Nixter
@dwbyers1960: Speak for yourself. AttisBennett’s comments are accurate and boldy true.I appreciate his insights ! What’s wrong with you?!
Rimminit
The Center for Disease Control claims that “1.8% of males are gay.” This is Not a true statement. As of a 2013 study, 96.6% of Americans surveyed stated they are straight, meaning 3.4% are LGBT. Now that marriage equality exists in all 50 states and more people are coming out of the closet, the % will become more accurate when the CDC repeats this study.
Mikhail Strait
The guy doing the questions or whatever Is a retard.
gaym50ish
@Rimminit: It’s not that simple, because the 1.8 percent doesn’t count all the closeted men and women, many of whom are in conventional marriages. According to the Family Pride Coalition, 20 percent of all gay men and 40 percent of all lesbians are in conventional marriages. We all know that to be true because we’ve met them in gay bars and cruisy areas.
The CDC figure represents only those people who are OPENLY gay. The same agency uses a figure of 4 percent when discussing what it calls “MSM” — men who have sex with men.
Some studies put the figure much higher — as high as 15 percent — because it all depends on how you do the research and how you define who is really gay. One famous study by the University of Chicago defined it as anyone who has had sex with the same gender in the previous year — 2.7 percent. If you used the same criteria with straight people, any guy who hasn’t gotten laid in the past year should no longer claim to be heterosexual.
Saint Law
@Alistair Wiseman: “saving nascent human life.”
I hope you’re celibate. Not that I imagine you’ve much choice in the matter.

Really? How?
“A dime in [sic] a dozen”
Really?
Giancarlo85
@Alistair Wiseman: You abuse the “sic” thing to such a pathetic obsessive extreme. Your sentence structure, spelling and grammar is total shit, so whom are you to judge others?
You don’t know shit.
Your posts are full of ad hominems and strawmans.
Alistair Wiseman
@Giancarlo85:
“Your sentence structure, spelling and grammar is total shit….”
Always with the accusations, but never an example.
Your posts are full of ad hominems [sic] and strawmans [sic].
Untrue. I have never personally attacked you or anyone else on this comment section, nor have I ever made a straw man argument.
Again, always with the accusations, but never an example.
Giancarlo85
@Alistair Wiseman: Again, stop abusing “sic” when your grammar is TOTAL SHIT. You don’t even know how to spell or write. You can’t even write a complete sentence. You either write sentence fragments or run-ons. Your mind is fucked up.

Yes, Obama and Clinton made these dtatements THEN they realized the buzzword “evolve” and pander to this voting block AND donations. Did they really “evolve”? who knows. Hillary lies so much not really sure what she believes.
