Do you need to take some time and sequester yourself away from the world after this election? That’s fine. Go ahead. Practice self-care.
But when you’re ready to re-emerge into the world (and you will be, eventually, even if you don’t feel that way right now), you’ll probably want to figure out what comes next. You might want to let the San Francisco gay men’s chorus be your guide to reaching out. They were planning to tour to Cuba and China, but now they’ve cancelled that trip so that they can go sing in some red states. Because clearly we have some work to do in this country.
Gay men’s choruses may not be your cup of tea, which is fine. But good for them for trying to bridge a divide.
They’ll be traveling in the summer of 2018, when the country’s (hopefully) freaking out about midterm elections. That’ll be a particularly important time to let people in Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee know that queer people are just regular folks who want equality; and also that there is hope and optimism and a community awaiting people who feel isolated in remote areas.
But what will their song selection be? That depends on how the first two years of this administration go. They might be joyful relief at how much decent people have been able to achieve even in the darkest of times; or they might be mournful remembrances of all that we’ve lost.

HEADLINE: SF Gay Men’s Chorus Cancels European Tour To Visit Red States Instead.
STORY: They were planning to tour to Cuba and China, but now they’ve cancelled that trip so that they can go sing in some red states.
Now I never really studied geography, but I’m pretty sure Cuba & China are quite some way from Europe. Way to go Queerty making the community look good.

Wow, those must be the fattest gay guys in SF! (I thought being fat was illegal in California?) They should feel right at home in the South.
@Opine2: Ha, you beat me to it. It may be like when “Rick Steves’ Europe” goes to Iran.
kurt_t
@Heywood Jablowme, I’m convinced that singing makes you fat. All those breathing exercises and fasting before a performance. Throws off your blood sugar and makes you hungry. The only singers who don’t get fat are the ones who smoke. And Cher. Cher is the exception to everything.
Jack Meoff
Wow way to body shame guys. You guys are as shallow as a puddle.
Heywood Jablowme
@Jack Meoff: Yeah, I realize there’s absolutely nothing any fat person can ever do about being fat. I’s exactly like being gay! (eye roll)
ChuckF
Don’t you guys have something better to do? Now more than ever we need to hang together.

Type into Google images Ivanka, Melania porn and see if this family should represent the United States. Faithless elector petition. Now Republicans are being asked to sign this petition. Please consider adding your voice. Thanks.

@ChuckF: Lighten up.
@kurt_t: I wasn’t sure what to make of your therapy (as you seem to have a serious theory somewhere in there) so I asked a musical friend about it, who’s known many gay chorus members over the years. He says there’s something to what you say. I hadn’t realized how long and rather arduous all the practicing is for them. Yeah, it seems to be conducive to what you say: a sort of mild eating disorder? Anyway, next time I go to a gay chorus concert, I’ll go with a newfound sense of respect for all they go through!
Heywood Jablowme
@Heywood Jablowme: *THEORY* not therapy!
Curtispsf
@Heywood Jablowme: Way to go body shaming individuals in a chorus that does SO MUCH good in the LBGTQ community. Sure, there are fat members in SFGMC just as there are skinny dudes and guys with muscle. The point is that SFGMC welcomes all, regardless of age, race, body type, etc. and, yes, even sexual orientation. There are over 300 singers in SFGMC who are all volunteers paying dues for the privilege of being a member.
A mind, like an umbrella, works best when it’s open. Try opening yours for awhile…it may do you some good. And NO, I wouldn’t blow you. I have standards and you’re just not my “type”, ie, .mean spirited.
Heywood Jablowme
@Curtispsf: I already go to and support gay men’s choruses, & wrote something very positive about them above.
Obesity is a serious problem in America. We’re made fun of all over the world for it. It’s dangerous, shortens your life and creates all sorts of health problems. But suddenly we have all this ridiculous, pernicious, wacko PC nonsense about “body shaming.” Also I write from personal experience: I gain weight easily if I don’t watch out, and at one point years ago I got fairly fat. My friends were too polite to say anything, but in a way I’m very grateful to the RUDE strangers who made RUDE comments! – without them I might have never done anything about it and got healthy again.
Also, I’m sure you’re a lousy c*cksucker. 🙂
