Morning tv is all about chemistry, and viewers of Thursday’s CBS This Morning were treated to the most electrifying new duo in town, Pete Buttigieg and Lizzo.
OK maybe electrifying isn’t the word for it, as this seems to be the best photo they got together:

“Feeling good after chatting with @lizzobeeating,” wrote the 2020 presidential hopeful, but his Lizzo references didn’t stop there.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“Mr. Mayor, have you had any DNA tests lately?” asked Gayle King.
“Yes, and I am 100% that nominee to lead the way forward.”

I think Pete just found his Vice Presidential pick!

I like Buttigieg, but moderates like him will not save us. We need a real overhaul of the economy. Besides Bernie and Warren, Democrats have left the working class behind, and unfortunately, it seems like Mayor Pete is another example. His “turning around” or South Bend was just more gentrification.
We need medicare for all, free college for all, student loan debt forgiveness, and a Wealth Tax on the ultra wealthy in order to stop the plutocracy and nascent oligarchy in America.
Every citizen matters. Billionaires are currently pulling the strings in state Congresses across the country as well as all of D.C.
JessPH
Wealth tax is unconstitutional. You can’t tax people’s wealth. Medicare for All and Free College Education means higher middle class taxes. Don’t believe politicians when they promise these things while also promising not to raise taxes. If you say otherwise then name me one country with both free Healthcare and free college that doesn’t heavily tax their citizens. Perhaps, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, but those countries generate their income through their oil.
GentlemanCaller
And how exactly will you be making that overhaul of the economy happen, when the republicans have a vice-grip on the Senate, the House is hardly an overwhelming Dem majority, and the population is pretty divided. The US is a center-right country, and it’s just not going to elect a socialist. I might prefer that–I’d certainly prefer that the republicans didn’t hold the Senate, that the Supreme Court was not a hotbed of reaction, and that half the country wasn’t a bunch of brain-dead fox-zombies–but here we are, in the real world. The Democrats’ only hope for victory over trump is a moderate, not a progressive lefty–not this time, anyway.

@JessPH
Odd, we just afforded an increased the Military budget of $158 billion without 5 minutes of debate.
What you likely mean is that you don’t want to increase public education.
We can afford to kill foreigners in foreign land; just can’t afford our own education at home.

Creamsicle? bad dragon guru? ‘Hello’ from a drunken peasants fan. if you’re someone else, ignore me.
DavidIntl
@Creamsicle A far-left progressive candidate can’t help you either – because they will lose in a landslide in the general. Have you learned nothing to what happened with Corbyn running against the wealthy in the UK just now? Or Shorten running against the wealthy in Australia a few months back? The old class-warfare bit may work occasionally in places like Brazil, but it is consistently unsuccessful in prosperous Anglo-Saxon countries.
Buttigieg is at the moment positioned as far left as he can possibly go and still have any chance in the general.

Pete will lose states with high black populations.
GentlemanCaller
I hate to mention this, but the states with the highest black populations are Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and North Carolina. There is NO Democrat who will carry those states, period.
Kangol2
@GentlemanCaller, actually, Democrats can win North Carolina and potentially Georgia. So they’re not out of the question. Among states with the highest percentage of Black population, you also left out Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and Florida. Democrats will easily win three, and could win all four. Among states with the largest numerical Black population, you left off New York, Texas, California, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Democrats have won most of these, save Texas, and can win them all again.
BUT, will the White voters in these states support Mayor Pete? They’re going to determine the election, since it was White voters who put Drumpf in office, despite the fact the lost to Hillary by nearly 3 million total votes.
DavidIntl
@Kangol2 Trump also won because he did considerably better with Hispanics than Romney had done – despite all of the noise prior to the election that the opposite would be the case.
JessPH
Mayor Pete is practical and pragmatic. He won’t offer you pies in the sky. He won’t promise you stuff he can’t deliver. He’s smart, decent, reasonable, stable. I’d vote for him in a heartbeat.
Hdtex
Pity he’s unelectable
OzJosh
That’s what they said about Obama
Taiyoken
Pete is a corrupt liar. say we can’t fix anything so let’s leave greedy corporations in charge is not “practical and pragmatic” It’s corruption. Did you know he was once for medicare for all, but then he started taking massive contributions from insurance companies and then he was suddenly against it. He’s the epitome of everything wrong with politics. His plans will kill millions of poor people for the sake of profits. I can say that because his plans have been the status quo for decades and millions of Americans die because of it. Pete wants poor people dead. sounds hyperbolic of me? It’s simply the inevitable result of his “medicare for those who want it. If you believe healthcare is a right then you don’t charge people for it. If you don’t believe it’s a right then you want people to die. simple.
Doug
He’s got my vote.
JessPH
Taiyoken, Medicare for All is great. However, candidates who vow for it should not lie by promising that they would not raise taxes on the middle class. A government-subsidized healthcare for all means higher taxes. There is no country in the world that implements a government-run healthcare system without raising taxes on the rich and the middle class. Not a single country.
maleficent
the hell with Lizzo, i wonder if Pete was lusting after Katy Tur’s husband….. such a hottie!
boymikefl
Can’t get Independent votes with the “everything is free” gimmick. In the beginning, I supported Mom & Dad but never grandpa Joe. Pete & Amy are middle. I would love Pete & Yang but now, that’ll never happen. I give to Yang. Barbara Streisand can fund Pete.
Tombear
I want to see it in my lifetime. A gay man becoming President of the United States!
