A White House aide called Bill Clinton’s former assistant HUD czar Roberta Achtenberg to apologize for not remembering, uh, that she existed after President Obama claimed in his “June is Gay Pride Month” press release that he was the first president to appoint an openly gay person to a Senate-confirmed position within his first 100 days in office. The White House revised its statement to say Obama was the first person to have an openly gay person confirmed by the Senate within 100 days, which is correct.

I fail to see why you chose to use an unflattering picture of her…she isn’t making a fuss about it.

I know Roberta Achtenberg and there is no reason to pose such an unflattering picture of one of the great trailblazers of our community. In addition to her work at HUD, Roberta was a city supervisor in SF and the founding ED of the National Center for Lesbian Rights. She is a true heroine in our movement and should be shown some degree of respect for her decades-long role in working for our civil rights.
