Audiences for The Jim Jefferies Show got a bit of bonus treat, as actor DJ Qualls came out as gay while on stage. He also shared his story on Twitter, just so nobody missed the news.
Qualls, known for roles in The Man in the High Castle and The New Guy originally hails from Tennessee. He survived cancer at age 14 and studied literature before finding work as an actor and model for fashion companies like Prada. His screen roles have included parts in Road Trip, Big Trouble and Hustle & Flow. He’s also found work on the small screen in series like Memphis Beat and My Name is Earl.

Throughout his career, Qualls remained quiet about his personal life…until now. “It is 11:20pm,” Qualls tweeted. “I just came out on stage at a @jimjefferiesshow in San Diego. Yep, I’m gay. Been gay this whole time. Tired of worrying about what people would think of me. Tired of worrying about what it would do to my career.”
How about we take this to the next level?

We congratulate Qualls on his coming out, and welcome him to the big queer family. Now, we have to ask…is he single?

Kinda funny since he’s spent the majority of his career playing the trope of geeky, awkward dude obsessed with having sex with/dating girls. Congrats to him.

All the wasted time. We’ve all experienced it to some degree. I’m glad its behind him now.
Welcome to the family DJ.

He had a nice recurring role in The Man In The High Castle whose character eventually comes out and finds love with with a cowboy in the neutral zone. I’m used to seeing him in nerdy or comedic roles, but he showed some great dramatic acting chops on the show.

Oddly, if I have a “type” he is definitely not it but I have always found him and his characters to be quite sexy. Congrats on coming-out.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS

I met him and his sister in a gay bar in Chicago years ago and he was very nice. Glad he has this off his shoulders and hopefully it frees him up for even more success in his future.

Sorry it’s the 21st century. Coming out is sooooo last century

Really? You must be young. A requirement for something to be passe’ is that its time has passed. Last I checked, we still have to “come out” as LGBT, and will still need to do so long after I’m gone. The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 and I doubt you would find many Blacks who feel their fight is over. And women are still fighting for control over their bodies. The point is that LGBT people are far from equal, so having to come out is still very relevant in the 21st century.

I’m happy for him. He also plays Garth on the TV show Supernatural.
