One of our favorite celebrity couples is still going strong.
Olympic-medal winning Brazilian gymnast Arthur Nory gagged us two years ago when he revealed he has a boyfriend, publicly coming out in the process. Since then, they haven’t shied away from showing their love for one another on social media, and this summer is no different.
Nory recently dumped a new batch of pics of him and beau João Otávio Tasso, and they look as dreamy as ever. We can’t help but wish/wonder/hope/dream… Is a marriage proposal imminent??
The pictures show them at the pool, enjoying the beach and just having a blast. The adorable dump even elicited reaction from Adam Rippon, who replied with three celebratory emojis.
“I’d let [you] both end me,” added one particularly thirsty commenter.
Otávio Tasso, for his part, replied “te amo” (“I love you”).
🥰 🥰 🥰
It looks like it’s been a busy summer for Nory, who’s been training hard in the gym as he prepares for Paris 2024.
But don’t worry: he’s also had time to enjoy himself. The Brazilian heartthrob took a recent trip to Croatia.
He’s also been celebrating his LGBTQ+ identity. Right before Pride Month, Nory posted a photo wearing one of Tom Daley‘s own hoodies, with a rainbow heart knitted on the right side.
Daley said Nory looks “so cute!!!,” and we agree!
Nory, who competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, took home bronze in men’s floor gymnastics at his first Olympics in his home country. He stole the show, even prompting NBC anchor Lester Holt to gush about his “beautiful smile.”
Unfortunately, Nory’s encore performance in Tokyo didn’t go as planned. Battling injury, he missed the final in his two events.
Despite the disappointing finish, he still left Japan beaming with positivity.
“End of the Tokyo Games for me,” he posted on Instagram at the time. “Returning to Brazil tomorrow and leaving with all positive energy. Thank you to everyone who believed in me and gave me the strength to get here.”
Since then, Nory has used that strength to keep winning. That fall, he finished first in both the artistic gymnastics and team competitions at the South American Games.
A few weeks later, he won bronze at the 2022 World Artistic Championship for his high bar routine.
This year, the accomplished gymnast has added to his medal count. A few months back, he won the floor exercise at the Brazilian Trophy competition.
Nory says he’s singularly focused on qualifying for next year’s Summer Games, and helping Team Brazil improve on its previous performances.
“I know that as a team we can give more strength. We can be stronger as a team,” he said in an interview.
Nory, 29, is also inspired by his mom. A couple of years ago, she suffered a stroke that caused motor deficiencies.
He wants to win Olympic gold for her.
“I’m working so hard. It’s a goal, but I know it’s a consequence of the work, all the work. So, I’m working for that, to reach that goal, to win another Olympic medal because it’s a very special moment for all athletes,” he said.
We can’t wait to keep cheering Nory on. As an added bonus, we know his gorgeous bf will be in attendance for any gold medal win as well.
It’s hard to beat that.

Wow, Queerty is yet again championing this racist jack@ss Arthur Nory Mariano! Do better, Queerty, there are countless LGBTQ people out there to highlight!
dbmcvey
What has he done? This is my first time hearing about him.
Carlos
Hey! chill. There’s nothing wrong with being a little racist from time to time
frapachino
Lemme guess he said something you don’t agree with therefore he is a “racust”? BTW it takes a racist to know a racist 😉
frapachino
@ dbmcvey nothing, it’s some peoples way of shutting down people who say things their fragile egos cannot handle, right out of the Marxist 101 tutorial.

Oh please … one video among friends — including the black alleged “victim” — and he’s considered racist? Can you produce actual evidence of him being racist aside from that video?
Jokes like that are common among athletes, and I’ve heard them targeted against whites and Asians as well. Ever heard, “white men can’t jump?” And it’s usually taken in stride because no malice is meant among friends and teammates.
In this case, they’ve apologized. Twice. And they were suspended for 30 days, with financial and reputational loss.

@dbmcvey
Nory and two other teammates made two racist jokes around a fourth black teammate, Ângelo Assumpção. The video was posted online. The two jokes were: “Your phone broke. The screen when it works is white when it’s broke, what color is it? It’s black!” and “The grocery bag is what color? White. And the trash (bag)? It’s black!”
Nory and the Assumpção had been friends for over 10 years. The latter never indicated that there were other racist comments. Nor did the governing federation find any (but they suspended the the three non-black teammates anyway. One was Japanese-Brazilian). It’s been 7 years since the incident and black activists have not found any either. The three have since posted an apology video with Assumpção present. So to call Nory racist is a stretch.
It was nothing more than silly trash talk among friends. I’m willing to bet that there’s a fair share good-natured homophobic ribbing at Nory as well, even after Nory came out. That’s just bro culture (and yes, gays rib each other as well, e.g. against bottoms). Their only sin was to post the video online. But Brazil was/is reckoning through a period of racial hypersensitvity so they made a big deal of it. Black activists would grab onto small incidents and make it a rallying cry. An activist even filed criminal complaints against the three, demanding that each fund the education of 50 poor students as punishment. Yes, criminal charges for 2 jokes in 1 video. And activists were pissed at Simone Biles for posting a photo of the two hugging, jokingly captioned, “My Brazilian boyfriend.” They blasted her, asking why she was dating a racist (this was before he came out). So when Nory received all that publicity for winning Bronze, activists latched onto the incident again — claiming that Assumpção was being ignored because of racism.
You can see this overreaction on Queerty as well. Look at Kangol2’s comment. Without facts, he decided to label Nory a racist and jack@ss for life. Oh well, it seems like some people prefer to be stuck in the [uninformed] past.

the man is half Japanese, so I guess he has also received his fair share of snide racist comment
Apolodorus
I see queerty has moved on from the time he ruined a black gymnast’s career. Cool, cool.
Kangol2
They don’t care. So typical!
frapachino
Queerty racust??? OMG some people are truly insane!
BLAKENOW
UMM That was 8 frigging years ago and so he’s branded a racist for life time? Cancel culture doesn’t exist anymore. people do change… He never ruined anyone’s career, that gymnast was his fill in, get your facts straight, he was penalized for 30 days. He’s still stayed on the Brazilian team the Olympic committee had nothing to say about it. He admitted what he and his 2 other team mates did was wrong, people do stupid crap all the time, you need to let it go.
RyanMBecker
Care to explain how the Assumpção’s “career” was ruined by Nory? FYI, gymnastics is not a career. If anything, Assumpção received a lot of sympathy and publicity in racially-charged Brazil. Publicity that he wouldn’t have normally gotten as a lesser member of the team.
They were one time jokes among friends. Black activists have been unable to produce any more evidence of racism. The gymnastics federation hasn’t found anything. Assumpção himself has not given any other examples in their 17 year relationship. Yet you want to call him racist for life?
Everyone else in the incident has moved on. If you want to dwell on the past, that’s your problem. Don’t drag Queerty down with you.

Much of the content here is just vapid, tone deaf BS meant for BWGs who lean anti-black. Is it really surprising? Nope.
RyanMBecker
Wait … so no one is gonna say anything about the sexy Air Force uniform? What’s that about?
RyanMBecker
That woman in the string bikini has a more muscular torso than me. Sexy…
