After rocking all of our worlds, winning Grammys, and recording the theme song to the next Bond flick Spectre, Sam Smith is taking a break from music for a while.
In an interview with ET, he confirmed that we won’t be hearing anything new from him while he takes time off to, well, be a normal 23-year-old.
“I’ve been going now for three years nonstop and it feels right for me to just go home and just live my life and be a 23-year-old. My love life, the downs and ups, it never stops, so I’m always inspired by stuff like that, but it’d be good to spend some time dating.”
We know we won’t see him on Grindr or Tinder and he hasn’t been linked to anyone publicly since his short-lived romance with Jonathan Ziezel so, this may be the perfect time for him to take a break.
He did provide a little tidbit about the followup to the now-classic In The Lonely Hour:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I have been writing a little bit. Already I have a little bit of a direction of what I want to say and what I want to do and the sound, how I want things to sound, but there’s a long way to go.”
We’ll miss you, Sam, but we definitely support you getting your Adele on and letting us miss you a bit.
Now pardon us while we play “Make It To Me” (and tell anyone who hasn’t heard it to go listen to it RIGHT NOW).

My Dear Mr. Smith,
As I stated on Towleroad, please take all the time you need and should that be too little, please take a bit more. Such as twenty or thirty years more. I wish you the best in your search.

Perhaps I’m alone in the world on this, but I just do not enjoy his voice. He sounds like Michael Bolton with a head cold.
Brian
Would you rather listen to Britney Spears? Seriously, I wonder about the mentality of gay-identifying men who put miming fakes like Britney before pure talent like Sam Smith.
Message to gay-identifying guys: dancing in a club to Britney while she writhes half-naked on a video screen above you is hilarious to behold. It shows how dysfunctional you’ve become. Dysfunctional and disturbed.
DMRX
And old guys sitting around dance clubs leering at gay boys dancing to Britney Spears is creepy. Talk about dysfunctional and disturbed.

@Brian: Soooo what I gather from this statement, is that your taste in music is above all others and what you find enjoyable is “pure talent” and what you don’t is trash. Yet you call other dysfunctional and disturbed. Yikes, someone needs a big reality check.

@Brian:
Oh Look, when Brian isn’t defending anti-gay bigots he can STILL find a reason to attack gay men as a whole.

Good. He can’t sing any way. But isn’t it nice that he can afford to take time out to focus on his love life. Bloke is a joke.

Good for him. He’s been having lots of throat problems anyway. Emma Thompson said in a roundtable discussion, that it’s essential to go away and recharge you battery. We definitely need to teach this to American artists.
tricky ricky
after that crap fest of a bond song and his announcement of his desire to be a gay spokesperson, all I can say is good riddance!
meghanada
Good for us if that means he won’t hear from his sanctimonious big mouth for a while.

YAAAWWWWWN
Why announce it? Just go! Kick it on a beach somewhere. Don’t need to project. It’s like when singers announce retirement to prep a farewell tour. Just go already.
So childish.
