“The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.”- Epictetus ( Greek Philosopher),circa 100 A.D.
…and regarding his Christian-inspired bigotry, “And he said unto them’Yo know it is an unlwful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or to come unto one of another nation, but God has showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.'” in the Bible somewhere

A couple more–The Bible again, a couple of proverbs: “You may know a man by the company he keeps.” & “Who keeps company with wolves will learn how to howl.”
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra: ” Tell me what company you keep and I will tell you who you are.” circa 1600

@Dinodogstar: Acts 10 I believe, the story of Peter meeting with Cornelius. On the way to the meeting he daydreamed about a cornucopia of “non-kosher” food that was offered him by a heavenly host. He refused the food, saying nothing profane shall pass his lips. In verse 15, the host replies, “What God has made clean you will not profane.” Later in the story, when challenged about meeting the non-Jew Cornelius, Peter relates the what happened on his journey.
