Court “Liens” On Gay Foe Phelps

phelpshat.jpg
Fred Phelps and his hate-mongering church may soon be homeless.

A Maryland judge put a lien on Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church this weekend to help pay the $5 million Phelps owes for the mental anguish inflicted on Albert Snyder after they picketed his fallen soldier son’s funeral last year..

Phelps claims he doesn’t have the dough, so now Judge Richard D. Bennett has his sights set on the church and Phelps’ law office, which, if sold, may yield just over $600,000.

Apparently being an agent of the anti-Christ doesn’t pay very well.

I hope the pressure continues on this flake until he can no longer afford to buy a lollypop.

Restores my faith in American due process, sure does. A jury tells “Reverend” Lip, “hey you wanna harass a grieving father at his son’s grave site who died serving his country, the price tag’s five million. Pay up and shut up.”

Although we have the right to freedom of speech, to picket someone’s funeral is cruel and immoral. The courts gave it back to Phelps and then some. Sometimes the system works.

Next we have to sue George and Laura for the denial of our civil right to marriage and supporting bigoted laws. And remember we have to go after Bill and Hillary for DOMA and DADT and consorting with bigots. And while we’re at it we can sue Barack and Donnie for DOMA, consorting with bigots and the denial of our civil right to marriage.

And don’t forget Barney and Nancy for gutting ENDA and ditching it and the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes act to cut all connections to our equality agenda during the election or Dianne Feinstein who organized the vote to put gay bashers on the Federal bench and in the office of the Attorney General.

All of them are guilty of emboldening and encouraging violent thugs.

A few comments on the issue from someone who has studied the issues here:

Firstly, the judgement seems fair, and likely to stand up to scrutiny at the appellate level. The damages also are not dischargeable under bankruptcy law.

Secondly, the Phelps Clan has a bunch of lawyers who graduated from Washburn University School of Law, including Fred himself, who was a, get this, Civil Rights attorney.

Finally, to the crank above who suggested going after the Bushes, the Clintons, Pelosi and Frank, there’s no case. There is absolutely nothing that you can sue them for. Firstly, they are subject to the immunity for being Government officials, and secondly, even if they were not, there’s nothing there to make an Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress claim. It would be thrown out of court in a heartbeat.
