Well, it’s official. In case you haven’t heard, Hillary Clinton has clinched the Democratic party’s nomination for president. The AP called it last night.

Of course, reactions have been mixed. Not everyone is pleased with this news. Nor do they seem to fully understand the historical implications. A woman has been nominated for president by a major political party for the first time in our nation’s history. That’s huge.

Paul Nadolski
Her Royal Highness has NOT won the nomination yet. And since Bernie has won 20 states (and counting) that ought to count for something. Incidentally, the Green Party nominated a woman in 2012 and may well do so in 2016. If you want to support a candidate who ACTUALLY supports gay rights, you’d vote for her like I will (again).
ChuckF
PLEASE BERNIE
Your vision for America is the boldest since FDR’s. To put your dreams into action we will need a Democratic Senate and House. You are ideally suited to lead the charge to elect a Democratic Congress between now and November. You have the drive and appeal to voters that will assure come November we will have a Congress that cares about America and you will have set the agenda for the next Administration. I urge you to take on that challenge and lead the way.
DCguy
Countdown to the GOP and Log Cabin trolls coming in here pretending to be Democrats and screaming about how it is much better to vote for Trump over Clinton.
@Paul Nadolski: As for your comment, the reference was to a major party that has put people in high office before. And since there is statistically zero chance of the any green pick-ups in the House, Senate, or Presidency, what you are doing is advocating a vote for Trump. So nice try, if Jill Stein were polling at all there could be a case to be made, but when the highest she polls is 2% in North Carolina, which is a swing state, all that she is doing is swinging the state for Trump and the GOP.
So cast your vote, but then don’t complain if she becomes the next Ralph Nader.
MediaGuy
Perhaps Hillary can see the loss coming in CAli, so she put this out there as a way to steal Bernie’s thunder. Who really cares about her being the first woman, except for a few moldy feminists (… and Cher. ahhahahaa). Please don’t ask me to vote for Hillary’s vagina. Let’s go Bernie, put an end to her power grab. We’re not going to stand by and watch that dinosaur walk into the White House. Never Hillary.
scotshot
@MediaGuy: Funny, but I’ve never, ever heard any thunder from the Bernout.
The only power grab occurring is by Sanders as he’s behind in super delegates and more than 3 million democratic voters – and counting – have voted for Ms. Clinton so far in the primaries. So who’s making a power grab?
Trump wants Sanders to continue his losing quest, as a vote for Sanders is actually a vote for Trump.
GC1985
@MediaGuy: Pathetic reply.
You Bernie bots don’t know what you are saying. What loss in California? Do you not grasp the fact that you would need 80% of the vote in California to even think about coming even? Your candidate looks likely to be defeated in New Jersey.. So he is toast.
Not everyone is happy? The vast majority of democrats are very happy with Hillary.
Bernie destroyed himself with recent comments and is likely to lose today. California is a diverse state and Bernie doesn’t win those. Don’t explain math to Berniebots.
Game over.
Oh and practice what you preach. Start respecting the will of the people.
GC1985
Bernie is an awful candidate and has showed how awful he is. And now he is potentially under investigation by the FEC for irregular and suspicious donations made from one zipcode in DC. TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars are under scrutiny. These phony tweets are drowned out by the overwhelming support by the democratic base for Hillary.
Shame on some here! California probably will go Hillary’s way by the way. Too diverse for Bernie to win I think.
GC1985
@MediaGuy: 15+ million votes. Read it and weep. More than your candidate!
GC1985
@Paul Nadolski: It isn’t about how many States he won you tool. It is about how many delegates. Winning Wyoming and Alaska don’t count for much compared to New York.
MediaGuy
@GC1985: How did I just get like 5 responses from the same guy? Anyway, I will see you here tomorrow so I can rub it in. Probably rub it deeper than you’ve ever had it before (real deep), or, if you don’t hear from me then you win. 😉
GC1985
@MediaGuy:Rub what in? Are you illiterate? Hillary doesn’t even need to win California. She already has the nomination. Bernie now needs to win 80% of remaining delegates. And those other replies weren’t to you. Grow up please! Your man lost.
Billy Budd
Hillary WILL be the next president of the USA. She is awesome.
GC1985
OMG. I thought Hillary would win New Jersey… but Bernie got his clocked clean there. Total knock-out. Lets hope California does the same as New Jersey. Hillary also seems to be on the verge of winning South Dakota and New Mexico, but by smaller margins (6-9%).
South Dakota is a bit of a lesson. Ditch caucuses. North Dakota has Bernie winning in a landslide in the caucus, but when people actually vote Bernie doesn’t do as well. South Dakota is the same demographically as North Dakota.
Caucuses = undemocratic!
GC1985
According to some, Bernie needs to now win 90% of California lol. He can’t even do that in a CAUSUCKUS.
Brian
Hillary Clinton has done nothing of worth for male homosexual rights. Virtually nothing. She did nothing as First Lady and basically nothing as senator.
I get the sense that she wants to be President to prove the point that a woman can become President. This is not the right attitude to have. If she persists in playing the female card, she’ll lose in a landslide.
GC1985
@Brian: “MAle homosexual rights”… as compared to what has the republican party done, dipwad?
What are “Male homosexual rights” anyways? I don’t know what that is.
You hate women. We already get it. And lose in a landslide? Oh please! May I remind you who is a majority in this country? Certainly not men like you. She has a huge coalition including minorities, like LGBT voters, Latinos, African Americans and women.
Trump will lose big time. Funny how he barely got 75% of the vote in certain states after being the presumptive nominee. It shows nearly 20-30% of republicans won’t vote for him. Bad omen!
GC1985
Hillary spoke out for LGBT rights globally in 2011. Before even Biden opened his mouth.
Hillary has been on our side for years, as compared to the right wing male bigots in the republican party.
Brian
@GC1985: Lol, she spoke in support of gay rights? Gee, I can speak too.
Hillary Clinton empowers men who cheat on women. It really is as simple as that. She’s a misogynist in my opinion.
GC1985
@Brian: She spoke in favor of equality to the world in 2011. You on the other hand can’t do squat.
You are a cheater yourself and you said you don’t need condoms when you have sex because you can tell if someone is healthy (and you hate PrEP too lol). Go take your misogynist lies somewhere else…
You’re so manly right? Hillary is a million times more brave than a cowardly little weasel like you.
GC1985
@Brian: And what have you ever done for our community asides from being a back stabbing little b*tch?
Brian
Hillary empowers men who cheat on women.
GC1985
@Brian: Completely wrong. You have no clue what you are talking about.
@MediaGuy: Wow. What a big loss. Yugggggggeeeeeeee! For Sanders. The close polls were totally wrong. Clinton won by 13% (might increase to 16-17% as the two counties left are strongly proClinton and provisional ballots heavily favor Clinton).
She now doesn’t even need superdelegates. She now has enough pledged delegates. Her lead over Sanders counting both is nearly 1,000 delegates.
California wasn’t even close! Strong Latino turnout destroyed Sanders.
GC1985
Sanders still vows to fight on. He got destroyed in New Jersey and California. He lost New Mexico, surprisingly lost South Dakota and didn’t perform as well in Montana. The man is a fool. He lost Latinos in California by a 75%-25% margin.
South Dakota is a clear example as to why the democrats need to get rid of caucuses too.
We should count ourselves lucky Trump squandered the last month in unifying his party and only managed to create internal uproar for his comments regarding Judge Curiel. Latinos and women will be the ones who decide the election in November (like they did for Obama twice). Trump has given Hillary a mountainload of material. Her foreign policy speech was bruising and powerful.
Brian
@GC1985: Ah, yes, Hillary Clinton and foreign policy…like oil and water, really.
She presided over the Benghazi diaster, mis-managed sensitive emails, and piked out of her job as Secretary of State after just a few years. Ah, yes, such a fine servant of the people…
GC1985
@GC1985: Except Congress cut embassy security funding a dozen times while Obama was President, the emails had nothing (none of it was classified and it was more personal email if anything) and she didn’t pike out of anything. Secretary of State is a high stress job.
You have nothing except the same idiotic disinformation spoonfed to you by the GOP.
Keep on crying!
Realitycheck
Hey Bernie, nominations are won, NOT given away!!!
You lost by 4 millions votes and you lost almost 2/3 of the contests,
most important Hillary has a huge pledged 400 delegates lead over you.
Some some dignity and step a side, now it is time to unite the party behind Hillary,
we need to have a democrat in the white house,
Trump would roll back all we have achieve even withhold federal funds from HIV research and roll back marriage equality and worse of all……
appoint conservative judges to SCOTUS!
We cannot and must not allow that.
crowebobby
No on despises Trump more that I do and I’m not a rapid Hillery hater, but “Democrats have to choose between a cranky old man and Bernie Sanders” is funny. Not very original, but funny nonetheless.
GC1985
@crowebobby: Humor? Sounds idiotic to me.
DCguy
Anybody notice that most of the polls had Clinton winning Ca. by around 12 points, which she did. Approximately 13 points.
And yet the ONLY poll that the media talked about in the week before the election was the one that showed them tied in Ca. So the media ignored multiple other polls and only reported on that one.
The media has gone from reporting the news to trying to set the agenda which is scary.
As for Clinton winning? Fine, I was good with either one of them winning, because guess what, neither one of them is Donald Trump!
GC1985
@DCguy: There were two where she was only 2% ahead. But those polls were notoriously inaccurate for underrepresenting Latinos and minorities. Bernie drew among young voters, but got demolished in SoCal totally. And oblierated among minorities. He drew mostly young white males and that was it.
Early and mail in ballots just destroyed any chance he had. 30% of Cali voters do mail in. And they start counting those the second polling locations close.
Bernie never had a chance in California.
Next stop for the icing on the cake… Your city. DC.
DCguy
@GC1985:
And again, I was fine with Sanders or Clinton, both had things I like and both had things I was less sure of. But either one is SO FAR SUPERIOR to Trump that it started to get annoying when the Sanders folks started to sound like Fox News commentators repeating old GOP hit pieces on Clinton. I was wavering on who to vote for, but through no fault of Sanders, his supporters actually made me like him less.
It reminded me of when fans of Clay Aiken or Adam Lambert would come on this site. By the time they had posted a few times I actually went from liking or being neutral to both those singers to disliking both.
GC1985
@DCguy: His supporters irritated me too a great deal.
robho3
First time I have not wanted to vote for either candidate… I feel like I have to vote for her but I’m not thrilled about it…. Is that the way it should be?
