Oscar Isaac’s latest take on his ‘Star Wars’ character has gay fans going into hyperspace

Oscar Isaac is certainly awakening the Force among his queer fans.

After an official Star Wars book said Isaac’s character, Poe Dameron, is looking for the right “partner,” the actor gave his endorsement to the gender-neutral language.

“I’m all about keeping it as fluid as possible,” he told HuffPost. “There are a lot of interesting people in the galaxy, it’d be a shame to cut off 50 percent.”

The actor added, “I think Poe’s open to any kind of adventure.”

The jury’s out on whether Poe’s feelings for fellow Resistance fighter Finn, played by John Boyega, are romantic or sexual — but Isaac has hinted that he’s been playing up the subtext.

“I think there’s a very subtle relationship happening,” he told Ellen DeGeneres in 2015. “You have to watch the film a few times to see the little hints, but there was. At least I was playing romance… I won’t say with which character.”

Just last year, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Spanish website eCartelera that she and the rest of the creative team behind the galactic blockbusters have “talked about” the potential romance. “After 40 years of adventures, people have a lot of information and a lot of theories about the path these stories can take, and sometimes those theories that come up are new ideas for us to listen to, read, and pay attention to,” she added.

Meanwhile, Finn and Poe won’t be seen until Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019, so FinnPoe shippers fans will just have to hold onto their lightsabers until then.
