For his new project #WeAreBigAndTall, model Darnel Ghramm is highlighting sexy plus-size male models.
In an Instagram post, Ghramm writes:
Because we’re big and tall, it doesn’t mean we’re not capable of doing the things an industry standard size model can do or that we shouldn’t have the same opportunities. [It] doesn’t mean we’re not worthy of proper representation or respect in society or be fairly represented in the fashion industry, because guess what? We wear clothes and have killer style too.
Word.
Ghramm gathered some of his best plus-size buddies, including models Rob Robinson, Arcadio Ady Del Valle and Miguel Rodriguez, to recreate a Calvin Klein menswear ad.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The campaign was shot by photographer Tony Trott.
“Whether big, tall or simply fall outside of the worlds standards, we are ALL handsome and worthy, FACT!” Ghramm says.
FACT, indeed!

Denim on denim is never the look.
He BGB
My thoughts exactly. They’re all wearing prison denim or all black,
ChrisK
Is calling a fat person “big” the new pc term?
Kangol
Nice to see thick men represented for a change. I missed the original campaign, though.
DHT
There are a lot of great looking plus size guys of all colors…I am afraid none of the ones they selected is doing it for me though.

Bears is hots, I says.
(except for polar bears, of course, because of the white privilege they enjoy)

If you’re trying to pretend not to be a Trump Troll, you may want to try to not turn everything into an attack on “The Left”.
Although I will give it to you, having one of your screenames insult the plus sized models, then having this screename come in and say it liked them, AND trying to use stilted, and different grammar wasn’t a bad effort. On the trolling scale I give it a 7.5. (You lost points for making the different grammar too obvious.)

When I heard that she was someone’s model for the Betty Boop challenge, I was like, how are they going to make something that would look good on Betty Boop for this woman with no curves whatsoever?
Sam6969
Happy they finally smile. On the first pictures, they look too severe, in my eyes, with the stereotypical attitude of the “bad (straight) guy”.
projo
With the exception of one or two of these guys, I wouldn’t say any are obese. Some guys just have bigger frames which I find more attractive than a twink or an overly worked-out dude who looks like a Real Housewife with a size 2 waist and artificially huge tits.
orfunnyhaha
it only took two comments for some preachy judgemental gym bunny to start .

Exactly how many times to we have to see overweight people trotted out to do the same types of pictures that “regular” models do before we can stop treating it like some revolutionary idea? Body positivity is great and all that, but we see these types of things every month now, it’s not an original idea, it’s not brave, it’s not groundbreaking, it’s just different people doing the same exact thing and the media expecting us to give them a standing ovation every single time.

I mean, that’s what the other 97% of television is for skinny people, right? You’re complaining because fat people are getting too much screen time, really?
This is like homophobes saying that there are too many gay characters on TV. It’s nonsesnse.
Brian
No, that’s what I’m complaining about at all. I’m saying that the whole narrative that goes along with one of these photo shoots has become a complete cliche. “We EXIST”, “YES we can”, “there is nothing we can’t do”, etc.
If we truly want this kind of stuff to become normal in the mainstream, then it’s time to stop acting like we just saved a drowning puppy and cured its cancer every time we stick a guy with a 40 inch waist into a modeling shoot. It’s the difference between making a quiet donation to a charity vs humblebragging your donation all over social media. The donation is nice either way, but the patting yourself on the back for doing it is distasteful. Just let the freaking pictures speak for themselves.
Cylest Brooks
Ah, yeah. That makes sense… I see what you’re saying.
Target did this recently. They just started using “plus size” mannequins in their clothing departments. As far as I’ve heard (granted I haven’t researched heavily) there was no real announcement to this end. No press release. No fancy statement. Just a better policy. Easy peasy.

Hi there! Friendly Queerty* Comment Moderator here…
Please take a moment to review our updated comment policy. I have deleted several comments from this thread that were in violation. We are continuing to monitor and will delete any comments that use defamatory language toward/about fat people or those which attempt to falsely perpetuate negative stereotypes and incorrect information about health and weight.
We love hearing your opinions; please help us keep Queerty a positive and uplifting space for all LGBTQ folks. Thanks!

Jawohl mein Fuhrer!
KaiserVonScheiss
I read the new policy. Firstly, it’s clearly biased against conservatives (heavily).
I even stated that have some extra weight wasn’t bad, but that being obese came with medical problems. This is simply true and is backed up with medical science. As someone who lost 140 pounds, I know first-hand.
I guess none of this matters. What exactly what my comment in “violation” of, disagreeing with your sacrosanct opinion?
Cylest Brooks
Hi KaiserVonScheiss,
Thanks for responding. I will address each of your concerns:
1) I re-read the policy (which I admittedly helped write) and I do not see where it is biased against conservatives. I can sort of understand why you might feel that way, considering the current state of the American Republican Party. The good news is that nothing in our policy specifically discriminates against folks for being conservative. If you see a specific rule or guideline that is discriminatory to conservative readers, please share. I’m happy to explain our reasoning behind each and every one.
2) Congratulations on your weight loss. I respect the self-discipline that you must have had to make such a drastic change, and you should be proud of yourself for setting a goal and achieving it. As a person with multiple disabilities, I’m also jealous. Weight loss is essentially impossible for me. When I came to this thread and read through the comments, I deleted any comments that attempted to place a higher value on thin bodies over fat ones. Unfortunately, parts of your comment crossed that line… and since I am unable to delete just a portion of a comment, I deleted the whole thing. That’s not to say that the whole thing was problematic. I value your opinion, but my job is to make sure that Queerty is a positive space for all LGBTQ folks. I hope you can understand.
3) To be fair, this isn’t entirely off base. My job is to moderate the comments and delete those that violate our policy which comes with some amount of ambiguity. There are definitely going to be circumstances where we disagree on whether or not a comment was a violation. For what its worth, the team here have all been virtually unanimous on every issue that has arisen since the onset of the new rules, and I am consistently evaluated by the folks in charge to ensure that the choices I’m making regarding deletion is in line with the vision of Queerty.

KaiserVonScheiss,
You know, it’s actually bias against trolls. We have (the US that is) a serious problem with Russian trolls (the outrageous number of pro gun, pro trump, anti gay…gay).
It’s hilarious really. Angry, non cursing, pro trump gays who talk like a midwestern but write like a British nationalist.
Btw, all the Trolls do is get gay people to talk to their straight friends. We just tell them…man, if they’re swarming our sites, they must be all over your site.
In fact, you’re blowing your cover by being on this site. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, believes that you’re a red blooded gay American.
lauraspencer
Is this about big & tall or facial hair? Why does every big guy seem to have a stache or a beard?
MinnesotaNotNice
Because facial hair is sexy AF! The bigger and fuller the moustache and beard, the better!
KaiserVonScheiss
I see Queerty has gone back to deleting comments.
How did my comment violate the new policy? It didn’t.
“We encourage comments,” the new policy says. Clearly not.
All I said was that being obese isn’t healthy. That is a fact backed up by medical science. I even said that some extra weight here and there isn’t bad, but no. I dared to disagree with some sacrosanct opinion.
orfunnyhaha
annnnnnnd w’re off.
MinnesotaNotNice
There’s nothing as nice as cuddling up to a husky, hairy bear, young or old. If it’s a black bear, that’s even better. Any guy tipping the scales into obese territory is a health concern for that person and hopefully they can medically deal with it.
CastleSF
You clearly have a fetish that is not very common. Most gays like refined slim or muscular with trimmed facial hair. You must be one of those social misfits.
tham
No no no, there’s a huge population that loves bears.
Again, as I keep on trying to tell Russian trolls…
If there’s a body type, there’s a gay guy who exclusively dates it.
bushwickfreddy
OUCH…all that denim on denim is not a look…but some of those fellas are pretty hubba hubba..
tham
Paul Newman…he could wear it. One time I saw him in denim shirty, pants and jacket…with a mustache…
And looked so sexy.
Tombear
I adore huskular men. And I really dig facial hair and a hairy chest. Skinny shaved men revolt me. If I wanted skinny and hairless I’d be attracted to women!
MinnesotaNotNice
Exactly so!
CastleSF
It sounds like your definition of a real man is hairy and big, coincidentally a duplicate image of yourself, which seems most unsavory. Are you sure you are not a narcissist in some way?
tham
@CastleSF
Here’s your problem with trolling…earlier, you write about what you think is “sexy”. One could argue, that the body type you talk about, greatly resembles your own body type.
THEN you bash someone as narcissist for liking their own body type.
You’re not here to talk about something you like…you’re here to start an argument.
Btw, first hat tip that you’re Russian? They tend to put “places” in their username. Like “blondincanada” or “CaliKevin” or “DenverDan”
It’s hilarious.
CastleSF
I am willing to overlook your absurd fantasy of this whole Russian troll thing that seems to have come out of nowhere but these so-call bear lovers who somehow develop a peculiar affection for big hairy men have the nerve to equate having a slim and hairless or nicely trimmed body with being feminine. These men must have been traumatized when they were young and the lasting psychological scars cause them to desire men who are generally considered too macho and insensitive. To each his own as long as they are happy with their choice of men.
MinnesotaNotNice
@CastleSF
LOL, I don’t view it as a fetish and I think it’s quite common. I’m a guy with a slight stocky build who enjoys men of my body type or bigger…..up to a reasonable point. Muscular and beefy bodies are also hot. A guy’s facial hair can be trimmed and neat or wild like Dan Haggerty, it’s all good to me. I have no attraction to skinny/slim/twinkish men who are smooth or who shave/manscape. I’ll never understand a man shaving off the hair anywhere on their body.
justgeo
Big okay just not ‘mushy’ lots of “apron” fat.K?
