Things go from bad to worse for Jerry Falwell Jr. amid pool boy sex scandal

An inevitable ending has come in the classic tale of Jerry Falwell Jr. and the pool boy — Falwell has officially resigned as president of the Christian conservative Liberty University.

The resignation comes after Giancarlo Granda, the former pool boy of Falwell and his wife, Becki, told Reuters that that he would regularly have sex with Becki while Jerry watched.

“Becki and I developed an intimate relationship and Jerry enjoyed watching from the corner of the room,” Granda, now 29, alleged.

Judging by the conflicting reports on Monday, Jerry’s decision to step down was not an easy one. First, the school announced he’d agreed to resign, then Falwell told media outlets he hadn’t agreed, before confirmation came that he finally had.

In a statement to ABC News, Falwell attempted to excuse his hypocrisy by saying he wasn’t a pastor:

“I was never called to be a pastor, my calling was to use my legal and business expertise to make Liberty University the evangelical version of Notre Dame. Some of us are called to be preachers, that wasn’t mine. I was called to make Liberty University the greatest Christian university in the world and I couldn’t have done that as a preacher.”

Falwell Jr., an early Trump supporter, is the son of the late Reverend Jerry Falwell, the ultra-conservative televangelist who founded the university. Liberty University has a strict code of behavior for teachers and students not to mention a ban on LGBTQ students and staff.

Falwell had already agreed to take “an indefinite leave of absence” after he posted, then deleted, a photo of himself with a woman who is not his wife, both with their pants undone, partying on a yacht.

Liberty University put out a statement late Monday night:

“The Executive Committee’s Board of Trustees asked Falwell to go on indefinite leave of absence on August 7, to which he agreed. Since that time, additional matters came to light that made it clear that it would not be in the best interest of the University for him to return from leave and serve as President. The Executive Committee met this morning and a conference call gathering of the full Board was planned for tomorrow. Falwell responded by agreeing to resign immediately as President of Liberty University today but then instructed his attorneys to not tender the letter for immediate resignation. The Executive Committee will go forward with its meeting in the morning followed by the full Board.”

Now that the news about the pool boy has been confirmed, is the personal trainer next?
