Just days after a 22 year-old Syracuse woman was murdered because she was gay, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee asserted on The View today that gay civil rights should not be taken seriously because "[b]lacks were stoned, hung, and dragged for their constitutional right to ’sit at the table.’ Whites — gay or not — already had a seat at that table.” Where to begin? A police report out today says 22 year-old Moses "Teish" Cannon was shot outside a party in Syracuse, NY last Friday because she was a lesbian. |

After last week's super-duper confusing and inaccurate discussion about Prop 8 on The View– Hassleback referenced Ake Green, a priest jailed under Sweden's hate speech law after calling homosexuality an "abnormal, a horrible cancerous tumor in the body of society" and Sherri was all worried her (presumably homophobic hate spewing) pastor is going to get sent to the clinker as well, The View took on the issue again today. Turns out the daytime ignorance bothered all the gays in the village, or at least Ellen and GLAAD, who called The View ladies to explain that gay marriages will not jail your preachers and force your children to go to reeducation camps. The bit about Prop 8. forcing men to wear eyeliner on Thursdays is totally true, however. You think we should have made a stronger case that there is a big difference between religious marriage and legal marriage? |
» Sexism?
While campaigning for Sarah Palin in Florida, View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck attacked the Republican's opponents and described criticism of Palin's $150,000 wardrobe as "deliberately sexist." [HuffPo] |

"Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s pro-Sarah Palin point of view could be put to work this weekend. ABC confirms that The View star has been invited by the Republican vice presidential nominee to appear at two weekend rallies. A rep for Hasselbeck confirms that she’ll be attending two rallies in Florida on Sunday, one in Tampa at noon and one in Kissimmee at 3 p.m. Hasselbeck will be introducing Palin at the rallies." The View was awesome yet again this morning, thanks partly to Elisabeth waking up on the wrong side of the bed and also because of Whoopi's absence. Poor Barbara Walters had to mediate between Joy and Elisabeth, which was ineffective and led to one of the more intense shouting matches we've seen as of late. |
|
Today was another argument over Barack Obama's ties to "American terrorist" Bill Ayers — and, once again, Sherri Shepherd stepped in and gave Elisabeth a huge smackdown… Joy Behar, who was back in her seat after having yesterday off, barely got a word in, but that's OK. The damage has been done. Elisabeth will surely be running to FOX News any day now. |

Elisabeth Hasselbeck absolutely, positively thinks Sarah Palin's right in bringing up Barack Obama's previous associations with William Ayers, a reformed member of "domestic terrorist" group Weather Underground. Whoopi makes a great point - if Obama's guilty of "associating with terrorists," then so has the entire population of the University of Illinois at Chicago, where Ayers teaches. |

Over a year after leaving The View in a huff, Rosie O'Donnell has struck a deal with NBC to host a special one-hour variety show on November 26, the day before Thanksgiving. And, if all goes well, the show could spin-off into a regular gig for the lesbian comedienne. |

She was so beyond help that not even Barbara Walters came to her rescue. The topic, of course, was the idiocy of Sarah Palin, which turned into another session of Elisabeth spouting off nonsensical remarks to defend her beloved McCain/Palin ticket. After Barbara correctly likened Palin's preparation for the debate to a high school student cramming for an exam, Elisabeth became extremely angry, which is when this happened (inciting a round of boos from the audience):

Bill Clinton caused a stir earlier this year when he said it could argued that any politician - including Barack Obama - wouldn't be ready to take the presidency. The former president later clarified that remark and insisted that he's got nothing but faith in the Democratic presidential candidate. That mini-scandal comes to mind after watching this clip of The View, on which Clinton appeared to sell his new book, Giving, as well as the Democratic candidate candidate. Whether or not he succeeded remains open for debate… |

On yesterday's episode of The View, Joy Behar asked Republican presidential hopeful John McCain if he would reinstate the draft to keep the Iraq War going. McCain claimed that we don't need a draft, because voluntary enrollment works. Apparently not, because our armed services are now actively recruiting from Uganda. Yes, Uganda. [SH] |

Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey endorsed Barack Obama today. Speaking of Obama, the candidate appears on The View this morning. We saw a clip of him grinning and bearing with Barbara Walters' advances. Being a politician's hard. [Reuters] |

Barbara Walters sure knows how to hold a grudge. The View matriarch rebanned Kathy Griffin for sending her up in a recent comedy special. Says Griffin: "I get a call from [producer] Bill Geddie, and he says, 'You were too mean to Barbara [Walters] on your last special, so you can't come on.' Can you believe it?" No, we can't. That's possibly the most unbelievable thing we've heard since that whole WMD thing. |

The graphics staff must have been as confused as Sherri Shepard is dumb. |
