Nonbinary readers want to know what is this nonsense about “opposite gender!?”
nm4047
that’s for them to work out.
abfab
SssAnderson hasn’t as clue what anyone wants to know. Including herself.
still_onthemark
Does Queerty actually HAVE any nonbinary readers? Do any commenters here ever say they’re nonbinary?

“Side” means no penetration? I’ve never heard that before. I thought a side was a sex partner you have outside of your committed relationship..
jp47
Same here, Never heard/seen it before, and I’ve been gay for a long, long time.
DrJones
That would be “sidepiece.”
“SIDE” as referring to someone not performing or receiving penetrative sex has only been used for the last few years to give those gays a means to identify since they don’t identify as top/bottom/vers.

A lot of those are just slang, rather than gay slang.
abfab
OMG you just ruined my day!!!!!!!!!!

Many people refuse to open their mouth unless pure, unadulterated gayspeak comes out of it.

Now I’m really confused. Would you mind expanding, or as they say, unpack this?

If you happen to speak English.

Great article, but why call this slang? Gayspeak is as much a language as is the “slang” of hetero-normative people. Go “Google” gay language and see how much more there is to these uses of language than the substandard, impolite message that “slang” conveys. If you know these words, you know MUCH more than vocabulary.?
Invader7
I scored 19/20. Missed “into “…of all the answers !
Openminded
20/20 but kiki was mostly a guess by elimination.
jcrascal
Well, I may not be a “Gold Star Gay” … But I’ve DEFINITELY earned my title of “Super-Gay” or “Czarina”! How many other gay men are there who can say that not only did their father grow up on Castro St in San Francisco, but also DATED CAROL CHANNING IN HIGH SCHOOL?!?!? 😀

Game Over!!!

I like this column but couldn’t we come up with a new gay slang test every few weeks? With enough training in the lingo, we could all eventually learn to eject a purse when we open our mouthes.
Fahd
This seems somewhat dated and focused on boomers. Anyway, I would say that if you got more than a few wrong you have dementia; it is that obvious/easy.
mikhailmaui
Nah, a lot of this slang came from those much younger than us boomers. Perhaps those of us “younger” boomers know most if not all, but I know guys much older than me who have no idea what some of it means. It was not until the introduction of the AOL chat rooms that a lot of the slang came onto the scene. A “side” back in the day was someone whom you were cheating with. A kiki was a piece of fruit, never heard of PnP until meth became a drug of choice among the circuit boys.
Openminded
May be right, Fahd. Young boomer here. That said, many of us boomers suffer from dementia, so your argument could be contested on that account.
powersthatbe
I thought, and hoped, that gay men were moving past “fish” and “fishy”, instead using the word for a baby feline instead?
abfab
You thought.
winemaker
I can’t stop laughing at this wishy washy BS. And I thought we as a community evolved from stuff like this, evidently not.
abfab
Oh, and we see that you also thought. That’s terrific! We need more thinkers. You can stop laughing now.
charette8596
Not that difficult. I’m straight and got 20/20 and only had to guess on 2. The ”side” and ”kiki.”
