For someone in her 70s, Holland Taylor sure knows how to flirt like a millennial. The actress, best known for her roles on The Practice and Two and a Half Men, slid into the DMs of current partner Sarah Paulson.
Paulson shared the couple’s origin story on Wednesday, January 23, when she stopped by the Watch What Happens Live clubhouse to promote her new film, Glass.

“It’s a long story,” she told host Andy Cohen and fellow guest Billy Eichner. “We met a very, very long time ago. I was with someone else, and she was, too.”
How about we take this to the next level?

She continued: “There was a Twitter thing that happened. We were doing a thing at Martha Plimpton’s house. It was for an organization that she was working with, and we were both doing a little PSA for it. We sort of breezed by each other and started following each other on Twitter.”
“So Holland Taylor slid into your DMs?” an impressed Eichner asked.
“She actually did,” Paulson replied.
The two actress’ relationship, which started up sometime around 2015, was once the talk of Tinseltown on account of their three-decade age difference: Paulson is 44, Taylor is 76.
“My life choices are, um, unconventional,” the American Horror Story vet told The Edit in 2017. “I’m with a much older person, and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the least interesting thing about me.”

Paulson expressed stronger words six months later. “If anyone wants to spend any time thinking I’m strange for loving the most spectacular person on the planet, then that’s their problem,” she said in an interview with Modern Luxury. “I’m doing just fine.”
Spoken like a true Supreme.

I’m happy for both of you. Real love happens when it happens. This simply shows we cannot give up hope.

What does ‘slid into her DMs’ mean? And if ‘DM’ is ‘direct message’ I still don’t get what this means.

It’s (black) vernacular from around 2014-2015 that’s become diffused throughout the wider popular culture, as always happens, and means that Holland Taylor approached her via a social media platform direct message (after following her, etc.), about getting to know each other. That’s all.
