Outfest, the inimitable LGBTQ-themed film festival based in Los Angeles, has returned for another year. This year's lineup also has us convinced: it might be the best Outfest lineup ever.
In an even more fortuitous turn, Outfest will also allow festival members to view titles from home anywhere in the USA. That gives attendees a great chance to catch some of these awesome titles ahead of the rest of the world; most debut at the festival true-indie style, without a distributor or release date set. As a general rule, all titles will be available to stream online the day following their in-person screening.
But which titles land in the can't-miss category, you wonder? That's why we're here, folks. In addition to an advance look at the upcoming releases Ma Belle, My Beauty, My Name is Pauli Murray and Everybody's Talking About Jamie, check out our must-see titles from Outfest 2021.

The interviewer expresses such surprise about the “other” Sunset Boulevard musical. Anyone who’s read the Sam Staggs book has known about it for years, and there are even videos on You Tube of excerpts that Gloria Swanson herself filmed for TV presentations, when the musical was in its beginning stages. The perception that both of these guys have about G.S. is somewhat skewed as well–“She turned into Norma Desmond; she didn’t have a career after the talkies started”. That’s nonsense. She was a smart woman who left movies because she WANTED to. Her voice was perfectly suited to the talkies, whether in the 1930s or right up to her death in the 80s. She simply had other interests and decided to pursue them! Their whole approach–excepting the gay love story–seems a bit condescending to me. On the other hand, the interviewer is all a-glitter about that “Showgirls” thing, of which I personally know nothing … not that I’d have any desire to know anything about it in the first place.
