On this, the 50th anniversary of the first pride march in America, we find ourselves again pushing back against bigotry and police brutality with a new surge of peaceful protest, demanding action on racial and queer injustices, injustices which often overlap. In keeping with the spirit of the first pride marches--often as much brave protests as celebrations of identity--Queerty honors 50 individuals who are leading the nation toward equality, acceptance, and dignity for all people.
From politicians to creators, activists to authors, Pride50 is composed of people who represent the pioneering spirit of the first prides across the country, the people who stood up and made a difference despite the personal price they might pay for their courage.
